When we first got engaged, I went to an attorney here in the states to see how much it would cost to start off the process of the K1 visa. The attorney told me that the initial fee would be $3500, which did not even include the cost of the paperwork that The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) charges.
This fee was just to cover the attorney costs of getting my fiancé Josue to the United States, and once he would get here we would have had to pay even more attorney fees for his adjustment of status and to get his green card after we got married.
We thought these prices were outrageous and decided to do all of the paperwork and go through the process ourselves.
Searching on the internet did not seem to be of much avail since most of the websites out there are made by attorneys who want to lure you in to contracting them for their services. The information that they give out is very general and not specific enough. It does not lead you through the steps that you need to take to obtain your fiancé visa.
After hours, days, and months of research, we were able to direct ourselves through this intricate process, and quite successfully. We even seemed to make almost record time with getting our visa approved, and without even one minor mistake!
Josue and I are happily married and are residing together in the United States now. And the best news is that he has just recently obtained his citizenship!
